At Glen Education, we prioritise the development of life skills, that will enable success throughout life. Teaching children to sew by hand and via the use of the sewing machine, is one such example of this approach. Educator Vanessa, from Glen Orrong Rd Kindergarten, has been working with small groups of children, to teach them how to sew, to make practical items, such as small pillows, handbags, purses, soft toys, dolls’ clothes, and blankets.
Sewing is a fantastic way for children to express their creativity, learn transferrable skills and build capacity across all developmental domains:
- ️ Fine-motor development
- Concentration and focus
- Creativity and self-expression
- Literacy and numeracy through measuring and planning
- Self-esteem and well-being through the joy of making something themselves
