Glen Education Healthy Habits: Let’s Play it Safe in the Sun

Let’s Play it Safe in the Sun
As the weather warms up, it’s timely to remember to keep sun safety a top priority for our children. At Glen Education, all our services are ‘Sun Smart’ certified with SunSmart Victoria. In line with our Glen Education SunSmart Policy, we encourage everyone to apply sunscreen and ensure children wear hats during outdoor play. Protecting young skin from harmful UV rays helps prevent sunburn and builds healthy habits for life. Children up to four years of age are particularly vulnerable to UV damage due to lower levels of melanin and a thinner stratum corneum (the outermost layer of skin).
Glen Education is committed to:
• Promoting sun protection strategies for children, families, staff, and visitors to minimize the harmful effects of overexposure to the sun’s UV radiation.
• Ensuring that curriculum planning minimizes overexposure to the sun’s UV radiation and promotes awareness of sun protection strategies with children.
• Providing information to children, staff, volunteers, parents/guardians, and others at the service about the harmful effects of UV radiation and the ways to reduce the risks of sun damage.
