At Glen Education, we believe in making learning meaningful and interactive. Earlier this year, the children at Glen Centre Rd Kindergarten embarked on an important excursion to Humble Creatures café (tag), where they set about putting into practice their use of the Mandarin language, in a real-world setting.
As part of the services’ Learn Languages program, funded by the Department of Education (tag) the children have been learning the names of different fruits and essential phrases like 你好 (nǐ hǎo – hello) and 谢谢 (xiè xiè – thank you). On this special outing, they confidently ordered 橙汁 (chéng zhī – orange juice), handed over their money, and thanked the café staff – all in Mandarin.
This hands-on experience not only enriched their understanding of language but also fostered independence, social interaction, and cultural appreciation. This philosophical approach to learning is embedded in the Early Year Learning Framework (2022), where children can develop their emerging autonomy, interdependence, and confidence, and where they can engage with and explore language, extending their communication skills.
Thank you to the Humble Creatures Café for allowing us the opportunity to work together to put our rich learning into practice.
